A ritualistic performance where childhood mosaics and the cultural packed lunch are spread, wrapped and shared. The artist sits preparing Danish rugbrød with leverpostej — the act of hospitality becomes a cultural ritual that knows no borders.
The performance is a comment on society's perception of the exotic nature of dual cultural inheritance. With the text-based work and the title, NOT So EXoTIC addresses the expectation of otherness.
The performance is performed while the open doors from the screening resonate as a symbolic underlayer to the performance itself.
With video as a tool, the artist displays herself as the courtesan in the iconic Bollywood soundtrack — a song that resonates through generations, an inheritance shaped by the tide of time. A cautious look behind the veil seeks the viewer as the soundtrack fades and blends into the performance in the Foyer — like an echo from past arriving in presence.
